One two-month cruise around Australia is being halted following the fatal incident of an senior woman who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a isolated island.

The passenger had been hiking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the excursion for a break. The liner sailed away leaving her and returned later that day after the crew realised the passenger was unaccounted for.

A large-scale hunt discovered her body the following day.

Head of the shipping company said that passengers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the continuation of the journey had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and previous mechanical issues".
